Note on Error 127

  1. POST Error 127 is a non-fatal error that says the BIOS does not recognise the configuration and/or processor it has in it. It cannot (so far) be disabled, so it is necessary to manually continue the BOOT sequence AT EVERY BOOT after this error. After that everything will work normally until the next re-BOOT.

Notes on J19

  1. Block is a "Shorting Block" which connects the peripheral and core voltage buses of the Pentium Classic processor together at 3.3V. It is fitted in all A & M series machines, except possibly some early 120MHz ones
  2. VRM drops the 3.3V to 2.8V to feed the core of an MMX class Pentium processor. DO NOT USE A NON-OVERDRIVE MMX WITHOUT IT !!!
  3. The 233MHz processor can require 6.5A at 2.8V. This is beyond the 6A spec. limit for a "normal" VRM (e.g.Semtech for P55C), although probably still OK if it can be kept cool enough.
  4. You can obtain a VRM from "IBM Parts Direct" for about $30, the part number should be 76H3658.

Miscellaneous Notes

  1. Before attempting to go MMX make sure you have the latest BIOS.
  2. I have not personally tested most of this data. Its seems sound on paper, but use it at your own risk
