Older Aptiva models with Netscape version 2.x preloaded (2144, 2168, 2134 and 2176 for certain, possibly others)
|
Caused by deleting or moving the C:\Windows\Netscape directory which contains three virtual device drivers required by the older Netscape browser bundled with Quicken SE and/or the IBM Global Network (IGN)
|
- Click Start > Click Run > Type SYSEDIT > Click OK
- Choose the file SYSTEM.INI
-
About 25-30 lines down you will see this:
[386enh] Look under [386enh] for these lines:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\DIAL.386 DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\VNTSTIMD.EXE DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\VTCPRAC.386
- Place a semicolon [;] at the beginning of each line
So they appear as this:
;DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\DIAL.386
;DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\VNTSTIMD.EXE ;DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NETSCAPE\VTCPRAC.386
- Click File > Click Save
- Restart your computer (these errors should be gone)
|
Alternate directions for Windows 98 users:
- Click Start > Click Run > Type MSCONFIG > Click OK
- Choose the SYSTEM.INI tab
- Click the [+] next to [386enh]
- Uncheck the boxes next to the three Netscape lines
- Click OK > Answer Yes to restart the computer
