Many users early on have expressed dismay that Microsoft FAX and the familiar Win95 "Print to Fax" functionality seemed to have been completely removed in Win98.
Although few would accuse MS-FAX of being the most efficient orreliable software option available for faxing, the price was right. If a user has just a limited, occasional need for a basic FAX utility the Microsoft app could *usually* be made to function adequately enough to fit the bill. So why did Microsoft abruptly "dump MS-FAX" in Windows 98? The answer is that they didn't. Although they did a great job of hiding it, Microsoft FAX and Windows Messaging are alive and well, provided as optional accessories installable from the Windows 98 CD. Those wondering "oh where, oh where has my MS-FAX gone?" should look no further than the Win98 CD, \TOOLS\OLDWIN95\MESSAGE\US\ |
