CD AutoPlay

How to Enable/Disable AutoRun

Procedure

The following steps will disable Auto Insert Notification,
aka "CD-AutoPlay":

  1. Right-Click on My Computer > Click Properties
  2. Choose the Device Manager tab
  3. Click the [+] next to CD-ROM
  4. Double-Click on your CD-ROM Drive
  5. Choose the Settings tab
  6. Remove the check from the box next to
    Auto Insert Notification to disable AutoPlay
  7. Click OK > Click OK > Answer Yes to Restart
  8. CD AutoPlay is now disabled
To enable AutoPlay, just reverse the above procedure, reinserting
the check next to Auto Insert Notification. You will have to restart
the computer for changes to take effect.

More Info

Note that IBM's Rapid Resume and Standby require Auto Insert
Notification to be DISABLED.

The exception to this is 2159-Sxx and 2176-Cxx systems where
the CDVSDUPD.EXE file has been applied
