Prior to updating the BIOS on either a 2137-E24 or 2137-E34 Aptiva system you must first identify the current level of the installed BIOS on the system:
Determining the installed BIOS level:
- Shut the system down normally
- Turn the system on. Press the F1 key when you see the IBM Aptiva screen come up to go to the Setup/Configuration utility.
- In the Setup use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll down and highlight System Information.
- Tap the ENTER key to view System Information, noting the installed BIOS version.
- Tap the ESC key twice and Exit setup making no changes. The system will now start normally.
Determining which BIOS update to apply:
The installed BIOS version will be found to be a seven-digit alphanumeric sequence. Example: JW3EN2E
Note the sixth digit (the next to last character) of your installed BIOS level:
- If the sixth digit is a "2" (ex: JW3EN2E)
XA1FLASH.EXE is the correct BIOS update
- If the sixth digit is a "3" (ex: JW3EN3E)
E26FIX.EXE is the correct BIOS update
