Comments: Great site!! I am in the process of doing some more upgrades to my 2176-C33. To date I have increased the memory from the original 16MB to 48, just upgraded to 96MB yesterday. I am running a Intel 200 OverDrive processor, and have an Expert98 video card installed. Will be installing a new Creative Labs 56K V90 modem and the Live X-gamer 5.1 sound card this weekend as well as upgrading to Windows 98SE. In a few month I will spring for a new HDD and likely do another processor upgrade. That should keep me running a few more years. Again this is the best place I've found for Aptiva help. Many thanks to Don and all the folks who share their knowledge.

Comments: I was looking for information about 3D video cards for my husband and we were trying to determine how to get the info we wanted. After 3 or 4 hours of search ing, I decided to just key in exactly what I wanted and I had a web page come up with choices of sites and yours was the second on the list. I thought I died and went to heaven. I could never find what we needed for my computer and I have to pay $35 to IBM for information which I did once before for useless info I couldn't use. I and my husband couldn't believe what we found tonite. My husband has read a lot of info on the componets in this computer and he understands it. I am zero comprehension. He also retains it. Having been a elec tech, he understands the technology. We are so happy we found you. Judy and Bob Beaman

Comments: My 2139-E6U was junk until I quit using the supplied oem version of Windows. IBM must have stripped out some important components. The up side to this is that if I would have bought a really good machine in the first place I wouldn't have become so knowledgable so fast.

Comments: Hi Don, Ive just been reading your fan mail! Of course they're all correct, your dedication to the aptiva is inspiring. I'm not sure if you find the time to answer the many individual calls for help or not, but if you do I would like to ask your advice. I have a 2142 SQ1 with a pentium 233mmx, ram upgraded to 64 meg and the standard 4 gig hard drive. This was my first computer purchase and I have realized a little late that they are not so easy to upgrade, particularly in terms of processor speed. The question I am trying to answer is can I economically upgrade the unit to more acceptable specs in terms of: hard drive, ram, and cpu capacity (say 20+ gig, 128 ram, and pentium III 800mhz+)or is it going to be easier easier on my mental health to scrap it and start again with a clone off the shelf? Theres loads of physical space for upgrades as this model had the dvd and the 3.5 drive in a separate console under the moniter but all the "weekend experts" I talk to tell me its an expensive boat anchor in terms of it's future computing worth. I love the machine Don,but I hate the speed! Even the internal modem was the dreary 33K job. I suppose I just bought my machine at the wrong time! Your comments would be both appreciated and acted upon as you obviously know more about these animals than anyone else I have spoken to. KInd Regards and congratulations on your incredibly comprehensive site. Phil Hodnett.

Comments: Great stuff Don!! What a find, what a site!, answered every question and more, and solved my 3 years of frustrating freeze ups, which IBM originally blamed on IE3 & IE4 (unavoidable on their lovely Recovery Disk). After searching IBM to the verge of a migraine and just waiting 4 days (at which time my warranty ran out) IBM advised they couldn't answer my question (re "can I do it without the Recovery CD!?") because I'm out of warranty. I almost gave up until I found your site Many many thanks from Downunder

Comments: I'm an old timer from the Board and always appreciated all the help you gave me to keep/get my Aptiva running. I was very sorry to see the Boards were gone and hope if you decide to put another one together that there would be a way to notify us. You have provided a wonderful and knowledagable service to everyone and it will be greatly missed. I will still check out your website from time to time and hope my problems can be served there. I just signed up for your newsletter and will look forward to that.......I was on your mailing list 3 or 4 years ago when you started a newsletter and always looked for to that. I don't know how you find the time to do all of this but certainly do appreciate it. Lee

Comments: Found you via Google. Thanks SOOO much for the info on the 3D graphics upgrades. No one has adequate stuff for this, and I've been having a devil of a time so far. Also, your flash bios says it should be some 1 Mg., but it seems to only download about 860K. Is that ok? Crossing my fingers, and going with all your updates. (Kind of hard to type this way, though.) Sandy (Tom's PC fairy.)

It's now running on a 200MMX, original 2.1GB and added a 10GB hard drive (only reads 8.4 as you stated) 128MB RAM, Zip drive, 40x CD-ROM, ALL IN WONDER PRO video card, 56k modem, NIC card supporting cable modem, and running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation/Windows 98 dual boot. All this and I have called IBM tech support once! Going to Windows 2000 this weekend!

Comments: Wow!! What a godsend you are! I have spent gobs of time contacting IBM with little success with such questions as "how much total memory capacity does my aptive capable of handling and etc.." I bought my Aptiva thinking I would have a great resource in IBM and I do to a point. Wish I had found your site before I ordered my memory from IBM. Will check here every time first, when I have a question about my APTIVA. Thanks and keep up the good work!! Rob J. [email protected]

It's obvious you put a lot of work into the site and it shows. Why can't the hardware manufacturers do as good a job?!? Thanks for an excellent support resource.
